New Website Content – How Often Is Best

Do you really need new website content? You have built your website, or paid someone good money to do that for you. So what now? Does it just sit there, hanging in cyberspace, like a flag without wind? Let’s begin with the reason you built your website.

Why Did You Spend Time and Money Building a Website?

Is it because you think you should? Is it to provide verification of you as a business? Or is it to bring in clients and customers? And how is that working for you? Ask yourself:

Why Would People Look At Your Website?

It is to make a decision. To decide whether to use your services or not. Whether you have met someone at a networking event or they have heard about you by word of mouth, I promise you, they will look at your website.

Three Reasons To Update Your Website Content Regularly

Potential customers

Imagine you are looking for a plumber to install a bathroom and you search Google. Will you choose a plumber who has a website with stock photographs but no news or updates? Or will you choose a plumber who can show you pictures of a bathroom they installed week with details of what they did and how they did it? And not just last week — many bathrooms they have installed.

You will choose the plumber whose work you can see. Job, after job after job. You choose that plumber because of the new website content and frequent updates.

Google

The overall goal of Google’s algorithm is to provide searchers with what they want. It does its best to behave as a person searching for a product. If it sends someone to a business that no longer trades it has not done its job. So how does it know if a business is trading if the website hasn’t changed since 2023?

And as a tip, Google likes the front page updating best so if your blog/new posts are automatically shown on your front page, you are in a win/win situation if you update regularly.

Your business stands out from the crowd

Every post shows your business, it shows your personality so you stand out from the crowd. The customers that will be drawn to you will be the customers you want.

So How Often Should You Add New Website Content?

Google sends its little bots out weekly so more often than that is not necessary. As a small businesses though, you have limited time and resources, so my recommendation is to add new website content monthly.

I know from experience just how difficult this is — and I create content for a living! Like you, I always put my customers first, leaving my own business to last, a habit I am trying to break.

Ask Me To Update Your Website Content Monthly

A monthly blog post or news post is my speciality. Are you wondering if you may as well do it yourself by the time you have sent the information to me?

I can tell you, I will save you so much time. Pictures off your phone will be the wrong size for your website so I will make them the right size and shape so you look great.

I will create a minimum 300 word post using keywords appropriate to your business, and it will be me that writes it — NOT A LARGE LANGUAGE MODEL AI. Don’t get me wrong, I use AI to help with research but I always follow-up to make sure the research is correct.

What Do I Need From You?

  • A voice message saying What, Why, When, Where, How and Who,
  • Photos,
  • Any testimonial you have received.

That is it. That is all I need. Then I will send the post to you for your approval.

Does It Work?

My roofing customer asked me why he was getting so many enquiries for chimney repairs. It was because I had done multiple “Completed Work” posts for him highlighting work he had done on chimneys. So he was at the top in a search in the area for “Chimney Repair”. The posts had gradually pushed him to the top.

Where Google is concerned it is not a quick fix but over time it will push you further and further up the search results, and then keep you there.

Where people are concerned — people you have met in the course of networking or who have been referred to you, it works immediately.
